Trade Waste and Recycling

Mayor seeks Lyn Valley businesses interested in seeking best deal from contractors when NDC cease provision of service. Town Council will seek to broker an efficient and economic replacement service contractor.

Published: 18 February 2026

Dear Business Owner,
The District Council has confirmed that it will continue providing its Trade Waste collection service, but it will no longer offer a trade recycling service.
Importantly, small holiday lets, Airbnb properties and similar businesses that are currently collected on domestic rounds will continue to receive both refuse and recycling collections. These properties use the same bins, bags and boxes as ordinary households; however, as commercial premises, they pay for the service.
We understand that Trade Waste charges are set to increase by 46% from 1st April, which will place additional pressure on local businesses and accommodation providers.
There is also understandable concern about the longer term. With Local Government Reorganisation scheduled to come into effect in 2028, there is a risk that we could face further uncertainty or similar challenges around service provision and costs.
Looking ahead, as Mayor I would still like to explore whether there is sufficient interest across L&L to approach contractors and broker a deal with one provider to meet our collective Trade Waste needs. By combining demand, we may be able to secure better value, achieve economies of scale, and provide greater stability and clarity for businesses in the years ahead.
I welcome your views and expressions of interest as we consider the next steps.
Please email the Council to register your interest
